Potassium Sulfate in agriculture

Potassium Sulfate, with the chemical formula K₂SO₄, is an inorganic salt. Generally K content is 50% ~ 52%, and S content is about 18%. Pure potassium sulfate is a colorless crystal, and agricultural potassium sulfate is mostly pale yellow in appearance. Potassium sulfate has low hygroscopicity, is not easy to agglomerate, has good physical properties, is easy to apply, and is a good water-soluble potassium fertilizer. Potassium sulfate is especially suitable for cash crops that avoid potassium cyclohexyls, such as tobacco, grapes, sugar beets, tea trees, potatoes, flax and various fruit trees. It is also the main raw material for making ternary compound fertilizers without chlorine, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Potassium sulfate is a chemically neutral, physiologically acidic fertilizer, suitable for a variety of soils (excluding flooded soils) and crops. After being applied to the soil, potassium ions can be directly absorbed and utilized by crops, and can also be absorbed by soil colloids. Applying potassium sulfate to crops that require more sulfur, such as cruciferous crops, is more effective on sulfur-deficient soils.

Potassium sulfate is a kind of chlorine-free, high-quality and high-efficiency potassium fertilizer, especially in the cultivation of chlorine-sensitive crops such as tobacco, grapes, beets, tea trees, potatoes, flax and various fruit trees. The main raw material of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ternary compound fertilizer.

Potassium Fertilizer is produced by low-temperature conversion of potassium chloride, chemical synthesis, and spray granulation. It has good stability. In addition to the three major nutrients N, P, and K that are essential for plants, it also contains S, Ca, Mg, Trace elements in Zn, Fe, Cu, etc. This fertilizer is suitable for a variety of cash crops, especially chlorine-sensitive crops. The main components of potassium sulfate compound fertilizer are MAP (monoammonium phosphate), DAP (diammonium phosphate), and ammonium sulfate (mainly obtained by neutralizing the surplus sulfuric acid and gas ammonia at low temperature). Potassium sulfate, urea and other small amounts of impurities such as calcium sulfate, phosphate, iron, aluminum, magnesium and other salts and traces of unreacted potassium chloride.

Precautions for use

In acid soils, excess sulfate will make the soil more acidic, and even worsen the poisoning of crops by active aluminum and iron in the soil. Under flooding conditions, excessive sulfate will be reduced to generate hydrogen sulfide, which will cause root damage to black. Therefore, long-term application of potassium sulfate should be combined with farmhouse fertilizer, alkaline phosphate fertilizer and lime to reduce acidity. In practice, drainage and sun-drying measures should be combined to improve ventilation.
